WATER JET CUTTING

Water jet cutting is a highly versatile and precise method used in manufacturing to produce complex shapes and intricate designs with extremely tight tolerances. This cutting technique is particularly valuable when laser cutting, or other thermal cutting methods would be inadequate or could potentially damage the material due to high temperatures.

    HOW WATER JET CUTTING WORKS

Water jet cutting equipment uses a high-pressure stream of water mixed with an abrasive substance, such as garnet, to cut through materials. The key components and steps involved in this process include:

    1. Water is pressurised to extremely high levels, often up to 90,000 psi (pounds per square inch), using a specialised pump.
    2. An abrasive material, typically garnet, is mixed with the high-pressure water stream. The abrasive particles enhance the cutting ability of the water jet, allowing it to cut through harder materials.
    3. The high-pressure water and abrasive mixture are expelled through a small, precisely engineered nozzle. This creates a fine jet capable of cutting with exceptional accuracy.
    4. The cutting head is controlled by CNC technology, which guides the jet along predetermined paths to create intricate shapes and patterns.

    WHY CHOOSE WATER JET CUTTING?

When it comes to cutting complex shapes with high precision and without the risk of thermal damage, water jet cutting stands out as the method of choice. Its ability to maintain material integrity, handle a variety of materials, and produce accurate cuts makes it indispensable in many manufacturing processes.

Water jet cutting is widely used across various industries due to its precision and versatility. These industries can include aerospace, automotive, manufacturing, electronics, and more.

Water jet cutting can achieve tolerances as tight as ±0.025mm, making it ideal for producing parts with intricate details and complex geometries. Unlike laser cutting and other thermal methods, water jet cutting does not generate heat. This eliminates the risk of heat-affected zones, which can alter the properties of the material and case warping or other damage.

At Metspin, our state-of-the-art water jet cutting equipment and skilled technicians ensure that we can meet the most demanding specifications and deliver exceptional quality. Whether you need intricate metal parts, or precise components for high-tech applications, our water jet cutting services provide the precision and reliability you require.
